Diamond Dash 2013

Dylan Egan Kolar, an active 11 year old living in Sayville, was diagnosed at the age of one with a rare bone marrow failure syndrome called Shwachman Diamond Syndrome. Within his first year, Dylan received eight blood transfusions and was hospitalized a number of times for infections secondary to bone marrow insufficiency. He is currently doing very well under the guidance of the wonderful doctors of Cohen Children’s Hospital (formerly Schneider’s). More research is necessary to help Dylan and all the other children struggling with Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes.

This year, we will also be hosting a bone marrow drive to help those with bone marrow failures. The Icla da Silva Foundation, Inc. will be in attendance to answer questions about bone marrow donation. See marrow.org & icla.org for more info.

Nintzel Run 2013

The Nintzel 5k is a fast, flat race through the streets of South Sayville, in memory of Keith Nintzel. In the Fall of 2004, at 21 years old, Keith Nintzel was involved in a fatal car accident. He had previously been a fun loving member of the Sayville High School cross country and track teams and was an avid runner.  This competition funds a scholarship in his honor at Sayville High School.

Long Island MacArthur Airport 5k Run

Steve Clark was the founder and President of 9-1-1 Veterans, a U.S. Navy Veteran of more than 30 years, and a Suffolk County Police Officer for more than 20 years. The LIMA 5K Run donates all of the proceeds to 9-1-1 Veterans, the charity that Steve Clark started almost four years ago. Although the founder of this great charity has passed on, his vision and his dream of assisting Long Island’s Military Veterans in need will continue to live on through 9-1-1 Veterans and the LIMA 5K Run.
